What are the responsibilities and job description for the ANIMAL CARE TRAINER position at LSU Health Sciences Center?
Position Summary
This position serves on the Division of Animal Care Leadership team. The incumbent is responsible for developing and delivering training on all aspects of animal care, safety, and departmental processes. This position will also develop assessment and evaluation tools, which he/she will use to create training plans for staff to aid in their development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Employee Training- Incumbent will train new and existing employees in animal care and husbandry, safety, and chemical handling.
Maintenance and completion of training binders for all staff. Coach employees to reach and maintain expected proficiency levels.
Monitor and recommend updates to relevant SOP and training materials.
Evaluate employee proficiency post training and work with Assistant Managers to develop training plans.
Deliver preformatted DOAC training to new investigators and staff.
Animal Care Kiosks – train employees on using the kiosks
Certifications: LAT Certification required, Preferred CMAR certification
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's Degree and Four years experience in a laboratory animal facility with at least 2 of the 4 years training employees may substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree. (other relevant teaching/ educational experiences may substitute for the experience on a year by year basis)An additional year of experience training employees in laboratory animal facility may substitute for the LAT certification.
