JOB DESCRIPTION: AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND EXPANDED LEARNING ASSISTANT
Job Summary
Works under the general supervision of the Afterschool Program ELOP Coordinator and the immediate supervision of the after school program and expanded learning lead to assist in planning, coordinating and directing recreational, educational, and community service activities for youth in TK – 6TH grades, at our school site.
Essential Functions: 1. Communicating with parents as needed, to make sure they are up to date on vital information.2. Ensuring all staff, children, and parents are safe and have a positive experience in our program.3. Provide direction in a variety of recreation, education and enrichment activities.
4. Assume supervision and responsibility of the program when supervisor is absent.
5. Co-plan special activities, events and field trips.
6. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and school staff.
7. Model appropriate pro-social skills, participation, adult behaviors and problem solving skills.
8. Ability to supervise youth in a group setting.
9. Be observant of students in relation to changes in learning pattern, general health, social needs and behavior. Discuss these observations with supervisor when they persist or interfere with the student’s progress.
10. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
11. Maintain confidentiality. Treat all information about children and their families in strictest confidence.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
1. High school diploma or the equivalent, and
2. Two years of college (48 units), or
3. AA degree (or higher), or
4. Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction.
5. CPR/First aid certification is required within 4 weeks of hiring date.
6. Food Safety Certification
Experience:
Experience working with adolescents in a school-based setting.
Ability to maintain patience, flexibility and adaptability.
