Position Overview:
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and providing strategic financial guidance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the agricultural industry, with a strong understanding of the unique financial challenges and opportunities within this sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management:
- Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
- Provide financial forecasting and risk assessment based on market trends and agricultural cycles.
- Agricultural Financial Expertise:
- Utilize deep industry knowledge to manage financial risks specific to the agricultural sector, including commodity pricing, weather impacts, and supply chain disruptions.
- Develop and implement cost accounting and inventory management strategies tailored to the agricultural business.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance metrics that are crucial in agriculture, such as crop yields, input costs, and farm profitability.
- Strategic Planning:
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO/CFO based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
- Support long-term strategic planning by assessing financial implications of business activities and new ventures within the agricultural sector.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of accountants and finance professionals.
- Foster a collaborative environment with other departments, ensuring financial alignment with operational goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in a controller or similar financial leadership role.
- Extensive knowledge of the agricultural industry, including an understanding of agribusiness financial management, agricultural cycles, and related regulatory requirements.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
- Proficiency in financial software
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Bilingual in Spanish required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
