Controller Position – General Engineering Company (Southern California)
A well-established General Engineering Company in Southern California is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations, compliance, and payroll management. This key leadership role requires expertise in California prevailing wage, certified payroll, and construction accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial operations, including payroll processing, job costing, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with California prevailing wage laws and Davis-Bacon reporting requirements.
- Manage certified payroll reporting, including weekly reporting to state and federal agencies.
- Set up and maintain contract files, ensuring compliance with insurance, certified payroll, and project-specific documentation.
- Handle Public Works Apprenticeship Forms (DAS 140 & DAS 141) and CAC2 apprenticeship training fund contributions.
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly OCIP payroll reports.
- Maintain accurate job costing records to track labor costs and ensure project profitability.
- Utilize and manage compliance platforms such as LCP Tracker, Prism, eMars, DIR, OCIP, and CCIP.
- Oversee weekly payroll processing, including new hire setup, wage garnishments, direct deposit changes, and tax remittances.
- Manage EDD claims, employment verifications, and payroll adjustments.
- Work closely with project managers, HR, and accounting teams to ensure smooth operations and financial accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Experience in Payroll processing.
- In-depth knowledge of California prevailing wage laws, certified payroll, and Davis-Bacon reporting.
- Experience in construction accounting and job costing preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and QuickBooks.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
- High level of confidentiality and attention to detail.
