Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Field Production Manager to oversee and manage all agricultural operations for our company. The Sr Field Production Manager will direct all aspects of crop production in our agricultural operations at the highest level to maximize profitability and efficiency while minimizing risk. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in agriculture, with proven leadership abilities and a passion for sustainable farming practices. The Sr. Field Production Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all field activities to ensure the successful cultivation, harvesting, and on-time delivery of high-quality produce to our customers. The successful candidate will have a strong background in agricultural production planning, supply chain management, and operations management.
Duties:
- Responsible for directing and overseeing all agricultural field operations of our company owned fields in Mexico and the US, which includes budgeting, staffing, controlling, reporting, auditing, and assessing.
- Collaborate with agricultural experts to develop crop plans, including crop selection, planting schedules, harvesting, and cultivation techniques
- Plan and coordinate harvesting activities, including labor, equipment, and transportation, to ensure timely and efficient harvesting of crops
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure that harvested produce meets regulatory standards and customer specifications
- Arrange for 3rd party laboratory testing (water, soil, pesticide residue, pathogen, heavy metal and contaminate residue, nutritional analysis, shelf life, allergen, and GMO as applicable), and maintain documented results from any field testing
- Assist and ensure compliance with the PRIMUS Certification in Mexico field operations, or Global GAP in USA field operations
- Collaborate with the Sales Manager, General Manager, and the San Bernardino Warehouse Manager for harvesting schedules to meet the scheduled customer deliveries and remain updated on the Production/Harvest quantity coordination with the producing fields and schedule all outbound produce and plan for inventory accordingly
- Develop and manage budgets for field production activities, including labor, equipment, and supplies
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize profitability while maintaining quality standards
- Maintain good labor relations and chair various round table discussions to educate employees, solicit employee feedback, resolve conflicts, foster open communication, and promote employee involvement in the decision-making process. Involve employees in the process of real change and continuous improvement
- Review and prepare workflows, staffing requirements, space allocations, equipment layouts, and action plans that meet the company standards for productivity, quality, and customer service
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable farming practices. Implement soil conservation, water management, and biodiversity enhancement initiatives to minimize environmental impact and promote long-term sustainability
- Manage supply chain activities to ensure timely delivery of materials
- Utilize mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve field-related issues
- Oversee quality control processes to maintain high standards
- Lead lean initiatives to optimize field operations
- Collect and analyze data on crop performance, yields, production costs, and quality metrics
- Prepare reports and presentations for management and stakeholders, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
- Collaborate with teams to fabricate and maintenance systems according to specifications for repairs and upgrades to farm equipment and irrigation systems
Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate should possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years in agricultural environment leadership and management role
- Excellent communication skills and analytical ability to gather, document, and summarize data and solve problems
- Computer Systems knowledge and proficiency in MRP/ERP systems, KPIs, WMS, RFID systems, and operate Microsoft Office and related software to communicate, perform analysis and report information as required
- Strong mechanical aptitude, technical, and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and expedite
- Proven experience in production agricultural planning and supply chain management
- Expertise in operations management and lean principles
- Background in quality control processes and regulatory compliance for farming operations
- Bachelors degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Business, or related field preferred
- Must be bilingual, fluent in both English and Spanish
