Summary:
The primary purpose of the Afterschool Services: LUCY littles Summer Camp Intern is to support LUCY Outreach in offering multi-lingual, culturally responsive services to youth ages seven to eleven (7-11). In helping LUCY fulfill its mission, the Director of the Afterschool Services and the Littles Afterschool Coordinator will utilize developmentally appropriate best practice methods to develop, implement and supervise comprehensive and innovative afterschool programming, which ensures the safety and well-being of each youth by responding to their emotional, social, physical and educational needs, and helps them meet their academic and social potential.
The 7-week summer camp will run Monday through Friday, 10 am-4 pm. The camp will offer in-person programs and schedule daily activities, which include arts and crafts, STEM, physical activities, swimming lessons, and trips.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years working with children or teens.
Hours:
Interns will be full-time, non-exempt position, requiring 40 hours, Monday through Friday (~9 am-5 pm) to accomplish the goals and deliverables of the position. The position will, at times, require evenings and weekends. Interns must commit to the seven week summer camp from July 7th through August 22
Responsibilities:
- Develop & oversee LUCY littles 7-week Summer Camp
- Create and maintain camp calendar & permission slips
- Recruit and schedule speakers, presenters and workshops
- Plan and attend trips, including swimming days
- Develop structure, best practice methods, and appropriate curriculum & activities consistent with LUCY mission including but not limited to literacy skills, math skills, interpersonal skills, assistance improving academic performance, social skills, prosocial peer relationships, and more
- Manage quality assurance through evaluation and assessment
- Build relationships within community with parents, schools & community organizations to include meetings, presentations & events
- Recruitment throughout the community through community events, social media, website, flyers and parent referrals
- Plan menu and serve healthy snacks and lunches, daily
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe environment
- Provide weekly updates to the Littles Afterschool Coordinator.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- 2 year minimum experience with youth; ability to communicate with, supervise, and empower children and teens
- Current driver's license
- Ability to drive 15-passenger vans
- Commitment to and passion for the mission of LUCY, and ability to model its values
- Competent with Microsoft Office and Google Business Suite,
- Social media (Instagram, Facebook, Remind & Twitter)
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to master Salesforce software
- Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to create innovative and creative programs.
- Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
- Have a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence and good listening ability
- Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis, as well as childhood trauma and trauma-informed care
- Familiarity with Camden or a similar urban environment
- Experience with program/event development and execution
- Public speaking
- Management of large groups of Scholars
- Comfortable handling disciplinary situations with Scholars
- The ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities
- Time management & task prioritization
- Conversational Spanish (preferred)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- 20 Minimum 2 Years out of High School
- Minimum of 2 years working with children or teens
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Willing and able to participate in physical activities with Scholars
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
