Lumen Bioscience is seeking a Research Associate to join our dedicated Cell-based Assay team within the Research and Development department. Role Description:
- Cultivation and Maintenance: You will be responsible for maintaining mammalian cell cultures, generating cryogenic stocks, and overseeing the condition and functionality of equipment in the BSL-2 room.
- Assay Implementation and Optimization: Carry out established cell-based assays, collect and analyze data, and contribute to the optimization and development of new protocols. You'll generate lentivirus and execute molecular and microbiology protocols, including PCR, plasmid purifications, and media preparation.
- Documentation and Presentation: You'll maintain accurate and detailed records of all experiments in Lumen’s electronic lab notebooks. Present your research findings and progress regularly at both group and company-wide meetings, aiding in the decision-making processes and development strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Culture Maintenance: Ensure the health and viability of mammalian cell lines for experimental use.
- Stock Generation: Prepare and store cryogenic stocks to support long-term research needs.
- Assay Execution: Follow precise protocols to perform cell-based assays and generate reliable data to support therapeutic development.
- Data Analysis: Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and contribute insights during team discussions.
- Lab Maintenance: Oversee general laboratory maintenance, ensuring all instruments and spaces are functional and clean.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in the review and refinement of laboratory processes to increase efficiency and quality.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Educational Background: A BA/BS degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a closely related field is required.
- Professional Experience: At least 2-4 years of practical experience in a laboratory setting, specifically working with cell culture and cell-based assays.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in aseptic technique, experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, SDS-PAGE, and familiarity with basic microbiology techniques.
- Organizational Abilities: Strong organizational and record-keeping skills, with a proven track record of maintaining detailed and accurate laboratory notebooks.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial for this role, as it involves regular reporting and interaction with team members to discuss research progress and findings.
- Multitasking and Adaptability: Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Capable of occasionally lifting or carrying items weighing up to 20 kg.
- Manual dexterity needed to perform precise laboratory tasks.
