Autonomous Vehicle Wire Harness Development Engineer

Lumenance LLC

POSTED ON 4/26/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/26/2025
Help develop hot autonomous driving technology for self driving heavy duty trucks!  Lumenance seeks experienced, hands-on wire harness development engineers who can design electrical harnesses and more.  This job requires the engineer to be able to do eCAD, mCAD as well as to help debug autonomous system installations.  Successful candidates will be "hybrid types" who have a passion for solving transportation technology challenges.

Job duties:

  • Independently develop professional, manufacturable, cost effective wire harness designs
  • Interface with vehicle or equipment electrical system designers to ensure basic electrical requirements are understood and implemented
  • Develop wire harness routing designs in 3D CAD (Solidworks or other). This includes ensuring all harnesses are routed safely and securely and properly connect to applicable electrical units and mating harnesses
  • Develop clear, readable wire harness drawings (this customer is shifting to Mentor from Autocad) conforming to customer and industry drafting standards
  • Interface with wire harness suppliers to address Design for Manufacturability issue
  • Design brackets and other mounting fixtures to secure wire harnesses and related electromechanical devices in the vehicle
  • Work with team members to trouble shoot the installation of autonomous driving units in heavy trucks and equipment
  • Must be comfortable re-working wire harnesses and "getting your hands dirty".  While you'll definitely be designing, you'll also need to get into the field to help get the job done.

Required Skills

  • Above average ability to use 3D and 2D CAD for the design of wire harnesses and related components (e.g. brackets)
  • Solid grasp of mechanical and electrical engineering principles applicable to the design of wire harnesses and vehicle electrical systems
  • Able to professionally interface with system designers, software designers, and electrical test personal to ensure electrical system functional requirements are achieved for the project
  • Able to interface with other functional areas to ensure all design constraints are understood and properly considered when designing a harness
  • Must be able to communicate in English in a technical environment (both written and oral)
  • Must be able and willing to take initiative to get the job done.  You will be working long hours as required to meet critical project deadlines.
  • Hands on electromechanical skills.  You should feel comfortable reworking a wire harness (as an example) and have basic mechanical aptitude.
