Traffic Engineer

Position Overview:
The Traffic Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and optimizing transportation systems to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable traffic flow. This position involves conducting studies, preparing reports, and developing innovative solutions for transportation challenges. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in intelligent transportation systems, traffic signal operations, and transportation impact analysis, coupled with a strong commitment to public safety and regulatory compliance.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Design:
• Develop, implement, and manage advanced ITS solutions to improve traffic flow and safety.
• Design and oversee deployment of technologies such as traffic monitoring systems, adaptive signal controls, and real-time traveler information systems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate ITS designs with regional and local transportation plans.
Traffic Signal Timing Optimization:
• Conduct analyses to optimize traffic signal timing for improved efficiency and reduced congestion.
• Implement and update signal timing plans based on traffic flow patterns and changes.
• Evaluate the performance of signal timing adjustments and recommend further improvements.
Traffic Signal Design:
• Design new traffic signal systems and modify existing systems to meet evolving transportation needs.
• Prepare detailed traffic signal plans, including specifications for hardware and installation.
• Ensure designs adhere to applicable federal, state, and local standards and guidelines.
Traffic Study Reports:
• Perform traffic studies to assess existing and projected traffic conditions.
• Prepare detailed reports with actionable recommendations to address traffic flow and safety issues.
• Coordinate with government agencies and stakeholders to secure necessary approvals.
Development of Regional Impact (DRI) Studies:
• Conduct and review DRIs to evaluate the impact of proposed developments on regional transportation systems.
• Provide input on mitigation measures to offset potential transportation challenges.
• Collaborate with developers, planners, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with local and state guidelines.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
• Engineering Intern (EI) required.
• Proficiency in traffic analysis software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS).
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local traffic design standards and regulations.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge and use of Microstation (CADD)
