Lead Traffic Signal Engineer - Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)

Position Summary: We are looking for an experienced and motivated Lead Traffic Signal Engineer to join our Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) team. This role will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of traffic signal systems to improve safety, efficiency, and traffic flow across transportation networks. The successful candidate will possess in-depth technical expertise in traffic signal engineering, ITS technologies, and have strong leadership skills to guide a team of engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, design, and implementation of traffic signal and ITS projects, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
- Design traffic signal timing and coordination plans to enhance traffic flow and minimize congestion.
- Conduct analysis and modeling to assess the performance of traffic systems and recommend improvements.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring best practices are followed.
- Collaborate with government agencies, stakeholders, and contractors to coordinate and execute projects effectively.
- Develop and review technical specifications, project documentation, and engineering plans for traffic signal systems.
- Ensure compliance with MUTCD, NEMA standards, and local regulations.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in traffic engineering, ITS technologies, and smart transportation solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
- Georgia Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 8 years of experience in traffic signal design, traffic operations, and ITS project implementation.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing multiple projects.
- Strong knowledge of traffic signal controllers, detection systems, communications protocols, and ITS software
- Proficiency with traffic modeling software (such as Synchro, VISSIM) and CAD.
- Familiarity with traffic signal timing principles, NEMA standards, and MUTCD guidelines
- Excellent project management skills, with experience in budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on safety and quality.
