Luminator is seeking to fill our full-time NPI & Manufacturing Engineering Manager role to lead the North America Mass Transit Quality Organization and join our growing and dynamic NPI, Manufacturing, IE & Purchasing department where you will be an integral part of the team by providing valuable input as we work toward assessing and implementing the goals and mission of the department and Luminator.
Summary:
The NPI & Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating all activities of the Luminator NPI Manufacturing, IE & Purchasing team. This includes managing the execution of New Product Development projects across the North America business as well as providing manufacturing engineering support for internal production operations. You will be responsible for the formulating aggressive but realistic team objectives and tracking and delivering to those objectives. The NPI Manager will lead the NPI team in establishing and/or improving upon core NPI and Manufacturing processes, leveraging support from complementary teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage NPI Engineering Activities:
- Lead, facilitate, coordinate, and track day-to-day activities required to ensure product transitions are completed on time, successfully, and in a manner consistent with organizational goals, departmental policies, and established processes
- Work closely with the cross-functional global product development project teams to introduce new products, including transitioning new products from Engineering to Operations and developing processes for mass production
- Provides guidance to New Product Project Team(s) regarding Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques, and ensure the release of new products and processes are supported with controlled documents.
- Work within an established Product Development Process with clearly identified phases and associated tasks, following the constraints of budget, schedule and scope while identifying and mitigating risk
Manage Engineering Planning Activities:
- Coordinate with Engineering to create and maintain BOMs in ERP. Request, maintain, and release new part numbers in ERP
- Manage required builds for new product development in a pilot or production setting, including training of operators, coordination with production planning, preparing manufacturing procedures and work orders, ordering materials, installing fixtures and equipment, supervising builds, and troubleshooting assembly issues.
- Manage on-time-delivery goals of NPI products by committed ship date and work to resolve capacity, material constraints, and other potential schedule interruptions. Manage and implement NPI Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Create and maintain work orders, purchase requests and internal transfer orders
Manage Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering Activities:
- Promote, lead and implement continuous improvement efforts to increase production efficiency and improve process flow through hands-on application of Kaizen
- Estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements for product lines
- Design sequence of operations and specify procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance
- Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing and material handling for New Product Introductions
- Provide process leadership to ensure the manufacture of high-quality products
- Initiate and manage Engineering Change Orders
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Knowledge of the electronics assembly or discrete manufacturing Industry
- Ability to manage direct and indirect global and/or remote teams in a matrixed environment
- Proficiency in design and process FMEA, Process Validation and Variability reduction applications within an ISO9001 QMS
- Knowledge of Product Launch Project management
- 3D CAD Experience with ProE/Creo Design Software, Infor Syteline ERP systems
- Ability to develop manufacturing documentation
- Development and qualification of tooling/equipment skills
- Ability to participate on project teams tasked with new product development and the successful transfer into manufacturing
- Knowledge of the application of Lean Methodologies – Kaizen, setup reduction, etc.
- Proficient in presenting clear and concise information to team and senior management
Education/Experience:
- 7 years’ leadership or management within project management and NPI-related function
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or related field
- Practical knowledge and leadership experience in Lean and/or Six Sigma including lean management system experience
