Position Summary
The Associate Vice President of Student Services (AVPSS) provides leadership and strategic direction for student services at Luna Community College. Reporting to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services (VPISS), the AVPSS is responsible for developing and overseeing personnel and programs that support student recruitment, retention, engagement, and success. The AVPSS will use a holistic approach to create build a strong and supportive campus community cultivating a sense of belonging for every student.

- Recruitment, Admissions, and Dual Credit
- Registrar and Record Keeping
- Financial Aid and Scholarships
- Student Success Programs (Advising, Retention, and Mentorship)
- Academic Support and Development Services including the ACE Tutoring Lab, and Rough Rider Mentorship Program
- Student Engagement & Campus Life (Student Organizations, Events, and Leadership Programs)
- Title IX, ADA and Student Conduct Compliance
- Veteran’s Affairs
- Satellite Campuses in Mora, Santa Rosa, and Springer
- Foster a collaborative and student-focused culture among student services personnel and between student services and other areas of the college.
- Ensure a holistic approach to student development by integrating academic and personal support programs.
- Build a strong and supportive campus community cultivating a sense of belonging for every student.
- Lead efforts to enhance the student experience through process improvement and simplification, technology implementation and a vibrant student life experience.
- Ensure student services compliance with all oversight bodies.
- Develop and implement comprehensive co-curricular assessment plans to evaluate the effectiveness of student services programs and initiatives.
- Provide regular reports to stakeholders and leadership.
- Recruit, train, mentor and provide professional development for student services personnel
- Oversee budget management for Student Services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep understanding of student development theory, enrollment management, and retention strategies.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and build a culture of student success.
- Experience in strategic planning, assessment, and data-informed decision-making.
- Knowledge of federal and state policies related to financial aid, Title IX, ADA, and higher education compliance.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and underserved communities.
- Proficiency in student information systems, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, and technology platforms that enhance student services.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field required.
- A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student services, enrollment management, academic support, or a related sector that focuses on student, worker, or client support functions.
- Experience in student retention initiatives, student success programs, or first-year experience models or related initiatives.
- Experience with financial aid, admissions, and/or registrar functions or related functions. Experience in community college or open-access institutions is preferred.
