Position Summary

Under limited supervision, the Business Manager has a broad range of duties associated with the proper operation and effective and efficient functioning of the budgetary and purchasing aspects of the department. This position manages and executes administrative, project, and executive support activities associated with the department. Provides direct support to the department principal as well as specialist administrative services to staff in the areas of fiscal management, support to LCC community, collaborate with departments around campus to coordinate and refine practices, general business administration and project management.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manage and support the daily financial activities of the enterprise, which includes budget preparation and control, accounting, purchasing, and business planning and management; ensures compliance with the college’s policies and procedures, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates, designs, and implements internal financial reporting and management information systems in coordination with the automated financial reporting systems of the College.
  • Use of the College’s modern enterprise resource system, Workday, for processing purchasing and budget transactions; tracking payables and receivables; employee records and payroll activity; and system reporting.
  • Cross train and serve as back up support in fiscal department functional areas including accounting, budgeting, purchasing, contract and grants, and/or payroll.
  • Collaborate with divisions across the College to refine processes.
  • Tracking of projects and providing reporting on large department initiatives.
  • Maintain records for department initiatives and assist with completion of initiatives as directed by supervisor.
  • May serve as a primary point of contact to third-party vendors and other organizations across LCC to ensure seamless adoption of business objectives.
  • Manages the documentation, maintenance, and modernization of operational processes and procedures; incorporates process orientation into new-hire onboarding and ensures all staff are timely educated on all process improvements.
  • May supervise student workers, including training, prioritizing and assigning work, and conducting evaluations.
  • Participates in special projects and may attend special events as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate and guide teams
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge in principles and practices of office administration
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and various computer software applications including Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, simple databases, and Cloud-based platforms (e.g. Workday)
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and oral skills. Incumbent will interact with employees, vendors, students, and stakeholders and must convey information clearly and professionally
  • Ability to formulate and recommend decisions
  • Ability to manage resources effectively
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to research and analyze data, evaluate performance metrics, and make informed decisions
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify problems, find solutions, and adapt to changing circumstances

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL FACTORS

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The worker sits most of the time.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
  • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in business administration, management or a related field is required.
  • 3 years of directly related professional experience is required with a Bachelor’s degree; 5 years of directly related professional experience is required with an Associate’s degree.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting is preferred.
