As a key member of the Development & Fundraising team, the Assistant Director of Major & Individual Giving will play a vital role in advancing our mission by cultivating meaningful relationships with donors and driving individual giving growth.Reporting to the Vice President of Development & Fundraising, this role focuses on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors while developing strategies to engage midlevel donors. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and results-oriented professional with a passion for LFA’s mission and a proven track record in donor engagement and stewardship.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESSupport the strategic growth of the major gifts program by identifying and cultivating new prospects.Lead efforts to expand and manage a portfolio of major gift donors, with a focus on increasing giving levels and deepening engagement.Develop and execute personalized cultivation and solicitation plans for major donors, ensuring a consistent and meaningful donor experience.Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective major donors, ensuring they feel valued, appreciated, and informed about the impact of their giving.Lead stewardship initiatives, including personalized communications, donor recognition events, and updates that demonstrate the impact of contributions.Track donor interactions and engagement to ensure follow-up and sustained relationship-building.Provide support and guidance to colleagues across the country, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices in major gifts fundraising.Foster a culture of collaboration and sharing of insights to support regional staff in identifying, cultivating, and securing major gifts.Collaborate with other LFA staff on prospect research, proposal development, and gift strategy.Data Analysis & Reporting : Partner with our Development Operations team to utilize donor data and fundraising analytics to track performance, adjust strategies, and ensure the achievement of goals.Report on fundraising progress to senior leadership, providing insights into donor engagement trends, potential opportunities, and areas for growth.Special Projects & Other Duties : Contribute to the development of fundraising campaigns, events, and materials to engage and solicit major gifts.Participate in relevant organizational meetings, representing major gifts and donor relations perspectives.Stay informed and up to date on Foundation activities and lupus news.Serve as an ambassador of the LFA mission, integrating its values into all donor interactions, fundraising strategies, and organizational initiatives to inspire support and engagement.Perform other related duties as assigned to advance organizational objectives.POSITION REQUIREMENTSEducation : Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience required.Experience : A minimum of 5 years in major gift and individual fundraising, with a strong track record of securing significant gifts from individuals and private foundations.Skills : Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with high-net-worth individuals, colleagues, and key stakeholders.Strong project management, organizational, and budgeting skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.High functioning with computer software and applications with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, donor tracking database programs, and fundraising software (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge).Other Requirements : Ability to work independently and as part of a geographically dispersed team.Passion for the nonprofit sector and commitment to the Lupus Foundation of America's mission and values.Must have a dedicated home office or workspace with reliable internet connectivity, ensuring the ability to perform job duties effectively and participate in virtual meetings without disruptions.WORKING AT LFAAt the Lupus Foundation of America, every role contributes to solving the mystery of lupus—one of the world’s most cruel and unpredictable diseases—and improving the quality of life for those affected by its devastating impact.
