This opportunity is for Medication Technicians who have held a position at Luthercare for at least 90 days before applying for the mentor role.


We’re currently seeking dedicated Medication Technician Mentors for Personal Care at Luther Acres, a Luthercare community in Lititz, PA. We offer full-time, non-exempt positions (7A-3P, 3P-11P, 11P-7A) Monday-Friday, weekends as needed.

WHAT YOU DO:

As a Medication Technician Mentor at Luther Acres, you provide mentorship, support, and training to new employees embarking on their journeys with Luthercare. Your leadership will play an important role in fostering a collaborative environment within our nursing team. You’ll do this in several ways, including:


  • Assist new employees in acquiring the experiences and skills needed to be successful in their new positions. Supports new employees through the orientation process and beyond, available to respond to orientees’ needs and presents a professional attitude, performance, and supportive manner. Introduces new employees to coworkers and makes them feel welcome.
  • Be ethical, respectful, responsive, reliable, authentic, innovative and empathetic; Report resident concerns promptly to LPN, Manager, Assistant Administrator, or Administrator; Comply with the PA Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations.
  • Assist residents with AM/PM care, ensuring that all residents are toileted, clean and well-groomed at all times, and ask for assistance if residents are resistant to assistance; Ensure that resident’s nutritional needs are met and offer evening snack to residents.
  • Respond to emergency campus calls with other team members(s); Respond to resident call bells as quickly as possible to meet resident needs.
  • Answer telephone appropriately and communicate effectively; Train, orient and mentor new and current team members.
  • Assist with coverage of the unit when there is availability; Assist with delivery of mail to residents.
  • Document resident care appropriately, including vital signs (pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse ox, height, weight, blood sugar checks) and medication delivery (eye drops, oral medication, insulin, inhalers, treatments and creams), Maintain other resident records in appropriate manner.
  • Maintain calendar of resident appointments and ensure that transportation for residents is arranged when necessary; Responsible to make sure supplies are adequate and report needs to Manager, Assistant Administrator or Administrator.
  • Notify pharmacies of needs for medication refills; Ensure weekly labs are completed; Ensure and assist that residents are seen by physicians as necessary; Collect urine, stool and sputum specimens from residents for testing.
  • Provide assistance for general room maintenance, including making and changing of linens, proper care of clothing, maintaining general appearance, empting waste paper baskets in resident rooms. Assist with washing kitchen and bathroom floors, and operating spotting machine for spills. Assist residents with use of personal washer and dryer; Provide personal laundry service as per schedule; Perform necessary tasks to maintain a clean, safe environment for residents.
  • Assume responsibility for daily assignment of residents, providing assistance as needed with ADLs, IADLs, and self-administration of medications. Encourage residents to maintain their independence with ADLs but assist residents when they are unable to perform them independently.
  • Initiate interactions with residents using conversation, games, and walks and promote participation and socialization; Encourage and assist with coordination and facilitation of programs. Accompany residents to and from activities and the dining room as needed. Promote daily orientation among residents, keeping calendars up to date and announcing programs to residents.
  • Complete and maintain inventory list upon admission and assist residents with unpacking belongings; Orient new residents to their room, call bell, schedules and environment; introduce new resident to roommate and other residents.
  • Maintain awareness of resident location and assist with cuing residents on sign-out book usage; Responsible for obtaining a shift report on residents upon arrival for duty.

Luther Acres – located in the charming, historic town of Lititz – is a Continuing Care Retirement Community with a long history of providing excellent care and services. It is part of Luthercare, which is a not-for-profit, faith-based, and mission-driven organization. Luthercare provides a network of services through its full continuum of care with two communities in Lancaster County. There are approximately 600 residents at Luther Acres who live across its independent living cottages and apartments, personal care apartments, and skilled nursing healthcare center.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the PA DHS Direct Care Staff Person Training Course/Test.
  • Individuals in this position must have obtained age eighteen (18) prior to first day of employment or transfer into position.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification, or willingness to be trained by Luthercare during employment.
  • Must successfully complete the PA DHS Medication Assistance Training program prior to the conclusion of the first ninety (90) days of employment and stay current with re-certification as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid PA Driver’s License Position.
  • One (1) year experience in the long-term care industry
