Luther College seeks an Assistant Professor of Music-Clarinet to contribute to our commitment to academic excellence in teaching, research/performance, and community service for a tenure-eligible position to begin Fall 2025. Primary teaching responsibilities include applied clarinet lessons, single reed methods (clarinet/saxophone), and theory and aural skills courses. We seek candidates with the ability and interest in teaching six course equivalents per year spread over fall, January, and spring terms. We welcome applicants who have some saxophone teaching and playing experience as well as those with ability to teach in Luther College’s signature core curriculum. Candidates may have the opportunity to teach courses in the applicant’s area of expertise according to the needs of the college.
Candidates with broad experience in performing and teaching in a variety of musical styles are particularly encouraged to apply. This position primarily serves the Music program but also engages with Music Education and Core Curriculum.
Applicants should hold a doctorate in music by August 2025 (preferred). ABD candidates may be considered. Demonstrated experience teaching applied clarinet lessons and theory/aural skills (preferably at the undergraduate level) is required. The successful candidate will communicate knowledge of and interest in teaching at Luther College. Candidates should demonstrate potential for excellence in college teaching and effectiveness in mentoring undergraduates, as well as promising scholarly and creative interests compatible with undergraduate education.

The current salary range for assistant professors with 0-5 years of experience is $52,000–$58,000 (academic year salary); placement on scale is dependent on credentials and applicable experience.
