What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interpreter position at Lutheran Services in Iowa?
LSI seeks an occasional Interpreter for our Refugee & Immigrant Community Services in the Des Moines area. Interpreters are needed for Congolese, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Tigrinya, Sudanese Arabic, and Arabic (Middle Eastern countries).
DUTIES
Provide direct interpretation and translation services between users of different languages. Interpret conversations in-person and translate documents and forms. Communicate effectively with clients, community partners, volunteers, and staff to ensure high and efficient quality of service to clients. Uphold interpretation ethics and guidelines. Length of position assignment may depend on the changing language needs of the program.
This is an occasional position. Hours will be scheduled as needed and vary during the weekdays and Saturdays. Hours will vary by week with no guaranteed amount of hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma/equivalent and 1 year of experience interpreting in the refugee community. Must have linguistic skills to meet the needs of populations served.
Qualified applicants will be fluent in English and one or more languages (with preferred languages listed above).

This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
