Job Summary:
Lycée International de Houston is seeking a dynamic and visionary Athletic Director to join our bilingual school for the 2025-2026 academic year. We are looking for an energetic and passionate leader who exemplifies our core values of excellence, rigor, and kindness. The Athletic Director will be responsible for developing, organizing, and managing our athletics department, ensuring it aligns with the school’s mission and supports the holistic growth and well-being of our student-athletes. In this pivotal role, the Athletic Director will uphold compliance with conference rules and regulations, advocate for the school’s athletic programs, create opportunities for student-athletes to excel, oversee department finances and budgets, mentor coaches, and contribute to shaping the strategic vision and impact of athletics within the school community.

Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration, Interscholastic Athletic Leadership, or a related field (preferred). Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Fitness, Sports Management, Physical Education, or Education.
- 5 years in athletic administration, coaching, or sports program development, preferably in an educational or independent school setting.
- Demonstrated ability to build or expand a sports program, including program development from the ground up, is a strong advantage.
- Background in athletic training or extensive coaching experience.
- Proven experience scheduling and organizing multiple teams, events, and coaches.
- Experience in creating and managing budgets and maintaining financial oversight for athletic departments, especially within independent schools.
- A love and enthusiasm for athletics and their positive effects on students’ development.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire coaches, athletes, and staff.
- Familiarity with or involvement in professional organizations affiliated with middle and high school athletics.
- Strong references highlighting administrative abilities, connections with students, and athletic expertise.
- Understanding of 21st-century teaching and coaching principles and techniques.
- Experience with integrating technology into athletic programs for scheduling, communication, and performance tracking.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements and safety protocols in interscholastic sports programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development:
- Establish and launch athletic programs, including team sports such as soccer, basketball, track and field, and other extracurricular sports.
- Create a comprehensive sports curriculum and ensure alignment with the school’s educational philosophy.
- Develop short and long-term goals for the athletic department.
- Staff Recruitment & Management:
- Work a long HR to recruit, hire, and manage coaches and assistant coaches for various sports teams.
- Provide training and support for coaching staff, including professional development opportunities.
- Schedule regular evaluations of coaching staff to ensure high performance and alignment with school values.
- Event Coordination & Attendance:
- Organize and schedule practices, games, tournaments, and other athletic events.
- Attend all school athletic events, practices, and competitions to support student-athletes and ensure proper coordination.
- Be available to attend before-school and after-school practices and games as required by the sports schedule.
- Coordinate transportation and logistics for all athletic events, ensuring student safety.
- Student-Athlete Development:
- Foster a positive environment that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal development for student-athletes.
- Encourage students to participate in athletics and maintain academic performance.
- Develop programs that support the physical and emotional well-being of student-athletes.
- Budget & Facility Management:
- Manage all equipment, uniforms, travel, and facilities.
- Work with school administration to plan and oversee the development of athletic facilities.
- Ensure proper maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure that all programs adhere to local, state, and national athletic regulations (e.g., TAAPS, UIL).
- Implement safety protocols for practices, games, and travel to minimize risk and ensure student safety.
- Stay up-to-date on developments in athletic regulations and best practices.
- Community Engagement & Fundraising:
- Engage with parents, alumni, and the broader community to build support for the athletic program.
- Collaborate with the school’s administration on fundraising initiatives to support the athletic department.
- Promote athletic events and student achievements through social media, newsletters, and other school communications.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and the school community.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations governing athletic programs, including compliance with safety and legal standards.
