What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Resource Supervisor position at Lynchburg Humane Society?
Job Summary: This position oversees the community resource department, provides and models stellar customer service to all clients, community members, and animal control officers. The position also ensures that all daily tasks are completed on time and accurately and that all relevant data is entered into the shelter’s software system.
Primary Responsibilities
- Hiring, supervising, and training community resource staff with support from the Director of Operations.
- Provides and models outstanding customer service and ensures community resource staff do the same
- Approaches conversations with community members from a place of understanding and compassion, ensuring they do not feel judged.
- Ensure any and all pet information is accurate and gathered at the time of intake.
- Ensures all effort is being made to reunite lost pets with their owners.
- Successfully de-escalates tense conversations with visitors.
- Works alongside community resource staff, keeps department scheduling current, and provides adequate daily operations coverage.
- Collaborates with pet owners to seek alternatives to surrender.
- Promotes LHS human and pet service programs such as pet retention, lost pet reunion, finder to foster, safety net, city licensing, microchipping.
- Assists the Director of Operations with providing timely reviews and constructive feedback to the community resource staff.
- Develops collaborative relationships with other human and pet support organizations and creates ideas to enhance efficiency within the department.
- Is knowledgeable of LHS intake, reclaim, and public service policies and ensures processes are efficient, timely, and accurate.
- Ensure that all paperwork is kept and the community resource department operates following state and federal laws.
- Frequently reviews pet and person records to ensure they are complete and accurate
- Conducts meetings with staff to review procedures, discuss workplace issues and share ideas to improve customer service and resources offered to the community.
- Ensure staff are adequately trained in their department expectations and processes and ensure they have what they need and are able to perform their responsibilities.
- Represents LHS values and mission to staff and community and ensures department staff do the same.
- Identifies departmental issues and creates solutions for improvement
- Maintains a positive and collaborative relationship while working closely with adoptions, foster, and medical departments.
- Uses Paychex Flex software for staff scheduling
- Abides by and personifies LHS’s core values
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Animal Welfare or human social work experience preferred
- Ability to maintain composure and excel under pressure, in a fast-paced environment while remaining professional, organized and accurate.
- Ability to anticipate and identify problems and communicate/solve them effectively.
- Excellent skills in effective, compassionate communication and conflict resolution
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies
- Ability to communicate honestly, respectfully, and in a way that fosters growth, compassion, and increased lifesaving, even under pressure
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and to build successful relationships with a diverse customer population

Physical Requirements
- Standing for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to handle and walk dogs of all sizes and behavior categories
- Ability to work with cleaning chemicals
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.50 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
