Job purpose
Works in the labor department and assigned to other departments to assist with other labor and helper requirements. As well as, supplement manpower assistance to complete assigned tasks. Carries out other duties as assigned by the Shop Foreperson for the following shops;

- Works under the direction of department supervisor or group leader and receives job training from department supervisor.
- Performs assigned helper jobs such as vessel jobs such as clean up, Climbs in and out of tanks for cleaning purposes, or if qualified fire watch for hot work being performed by tradesmen, pick up unused equipment and hoses, welding leads, etc., upon completion of jobs.
- When a regular vacancy occurs in higher labor/helper grades, supervisors may draw from employees in the labor/helper pool who have shown adaptability to their work and successful job performance.
- May be assigned to any unskilled job at the shipyard.

Work Environment
Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving mechanical parts and includes occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and to vibration.
