M&N Structures has a respected 30 year reputation in structural steel engineering and fabrication. Based in Winsted, MN, we serve customers in the upper Midwest and across the nation. With strategic plans for continued expansion, we seek a Director of Operations interested in joining a successful and growing business. Our Director of Operations will collaborate across the organization and utilize analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills to manage expansion.
The Director of Operations leads our Production, Project Management, Logistics, and supporting departments. This position will serve an important function in our growth, strategic planning, and internal and external relationships. Key areas of responsibility include:
Company Leadership
- Understand projected deliverables and capacity. Lead teams that manage short- and long-term planning to accommodate increased volume and growth objectives
- Establish, evaluate and update operational processes, standards, guidelines, and metrics for efficiency and effectiveness
- Communicate with leadership team about potential issues or constraints while providing possible solutions
- Understand and incorporate knowledge of project lifecycles and apply to project planning, forecasting and projections
- Attend and participate in Leadership Team meetings weekly and at off-site quarterly sessions
- Understand company financials and budget, ensuring profitability
- Develop relationships with vendors, customers, and other industry partners
Team Management
- Develop and foster cross-departmental collaboration
- Lead regular check-in conversations and reviews with direct reports, document, and develop action items to resolve and address issues while fostering an environment of continuous improvement
- Oversee, facilitate, organize and coordinate work-in-progress
- Assign projects and optimize workflow
- Identify personnel needs, establish job descriptions, and participate in the hiring of new employees
- Train managers and staff on process improvements, systems, and other defined topics
Qualified candidates have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in supply chain, business, management or a related field along with 7-10 years related leadership experience, preferably in a fabrication or manufacturing environment. We seek a strong people manager with exceptional skills in developing cross-departmental collaboration, accountability and participation. This position requires an analytical and strategic thinker with past success planning for and identifying needs in a rapidly growing company. Technical skills include working knowledge of Tekla EPM or similar MRP or ERP systems, strong proficiency with Excel/ MS Office, and an interest in leveraging technology to manage and advance business operations.
