Job Title: Supply Chain Planner
Department: Production Control
Reports to: Production Control Manager / Director of Manufacturing
Job Overview:
The Supply Chain Planner is responsible for planning, purchasing, and managing all materials to support production schedules and meet business demands. This role involves executing material planning strategies, developing inventory management solutions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize the supply chain. The planner is also tasked with cost reduction initiatives and providing accurate, data-driven reports for management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Planning & Procurement:
o Plan and purchase materials to align with production and sales order schedules.
o Ensure timely execution of material requests and resolve supply chain or material availability issues.
Inventory Management:
o Develop and maintain effective inventory control strategies to support manufacturing needs.
o Optimize stock levels to reduce excess inventory and improve turnover rates.
Supply Chain Coordination:
o Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, procurement, and other departments to provide up-to-date material status reports.
o Monitor and maintain ERP system data integrity to drive accurate material and production schedules.
o Communicate engineering changes (ECOs) and customer-driven schedule changes, adjusting stock and work orders as needed.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
o Analyze and report on material availability, demand planning, and production performance.
o Provide detailed weekly and monthly reports to management using tools such as ERP systems, Excel, or BI platforms.
Supplier Management & Cost Reduction:
o Implement and track cost-saving initiatives with suppliers to achieve business objectives.
o Work closely with material suppliers and the purchasing team to ensure timely deliveries and maintain strong vendor relationships.
Problem Identification & Resolution:
o Identify potential schedule or resource conflicts, fiscal issues, or material shortages and communicate solutions to management.
o Analyze task or project variances and recommend corrective actions to maintain production goals.
o Identify opportunities to streamline supply chain operations and propose continuous improvement initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
Proficiency in Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
Strong understanding of supply chain management concepts such as production planning, inventory control, procurement, and logistics.
Experience in cross-functional collaboration with departments such as Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Finance, and Purchasing.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to use advanced planning tools and techniques.
Effective communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across all levels of the organization.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
Advanced Excel proficiency with expertise in functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis, conditional formatting, and macros.
Experience with data visualization and report automation using tools like Power Query, Power Pivot, or Excel VBA is highly desirable.
Knowledge of Six Sigma principles (Green Belt certification preferred).
Certifications such as APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) are a plus.
Experience working in manufacturing environments with a focus on planning, scheduling, and performance measurement.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering Management, or a related field.
Six or more years of progressive experience in supply chain planning, scheduling, or procurement (equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of formal education).
Ability to work independently and lead in a team environment. Must be able to work extended hours as needed.
