Summary
M.A. Metal, Inc. is seeking an experienced and dynamic Fabrication Manager to lead our work truck body line of business at our facility in Edinburgh, Indiana. This salaried position will oversee all aspects of production, including the welding shop, large assembly welding, paint and finish shop, final assembly, and legacy welding, assembly, and trailer frame fabrication operations. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Fabrication Manager will ensure efficient, high-quality production while managing a team of skilled tradespeople. The ideal candidate brings hands-on fabrication experience, a strong background in production or project management, and preferably holds a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Oversight: Manage the entire work truck body / trailer frame fabrication process, including welding, large-scale assembly, painting, finishing, and final assembly, as well as legacy welding and fabrication operations.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of welders, fabricators, painters, and assemblers, ensuring proper staffing, training, and performance to meet production goals.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and enforce quality control standards across all stages of fabrication, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and M.A. Metal, Inc.’s commitment to excellence.
- Process Optimization: Collaborate with the Director of Operations to streamline workflows, improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety across all departments.
- Welding Expertise: Oversee welding operations, troubleshoot technical issues, and, if certified, perform weld inspections to ensure structural integrity and adherence to AWS (American Welding Society) standards.
- Project Management: Plan and coordinate production schedules, monitor progress, and adjust resources to meet deadlines while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies, ensuring proper use of PPE, equipment maintenance, and a hazard-free work environment.
- Equipment & Inventory: Manage maintenance schedules for fabrication and welding equipment, oversee material inventory, and coordinate with vendors to ensure supply chain reliability.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Director of Operations on production metrics, team performance, and any operational challenges, offering data-driven solutions as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in industrial fabrication, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or manager role overseeing production or project timelines. Hands-on experience in welding and metal fabrication is required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick), metal fabrication processes, and familiarity with paint and finish operations. Knowledge of work truck body or similar vehicle fabrication is a plus.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Certifications: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential from the American Welding Society is highly preferred but not required. Other relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, Lean Manufacturing, Project Management Professional PMP) are a plus.
- Management Skills: Strong background in production management or project management, with experience in scheduling, resource allocation, and process improvement.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a shop environment, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and occasional exposure to welding fumes or paint vapors (with appropriate PPE).
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills to liaise with team members, management, and external stakeholders.
