The Hoyt Arboretum Friends is recruiting for several open Board positions to begin in May of 2025. Hoyt Arboretum Friends (HAF) is a member-supported, non-profit organization working in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation to manage Hoyt Arboretum. HAF’s mission is to bring people and trees together. We create meaningful learning experiences in a unique global tree collection that we nurture in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation.
We hope to add 3-5 new board members in 2025. We are particularly interested in candidates with connections to diverse communities or culturally specific organizations in the Portland area who will bring important perspectives to our leadership and help shape organizational priorities moving forward. We welcome applicants with experience in : capital campaigns / fundraising, education / outdoor education, horticulture / landscaping, finance / wealth management, communications / marketing, and construction. Most importantly, applicants should have a passion for the arboretum’s mission. Please don’t let a lack of prior board experience discourage you from learning more about volunteering for the board at Hoyt Arboretum.
This is an exciting time at Hoyt Arboretum as our Board is engaged in a planning and feasibility study to determine our readiness to launch a capital campaign. This effort would expand and improve our facilities with an emphasis on better space for our plant care, educational spaces and visitor services, as well as staff work spaces.
We’re proud to be a center for botanical education, conservation research, outdoor recreation, and family-friendly activity. Hoyt Arboretum is also a free public park where all people can take part in the mental, spiritual, and physical enrichment that green outdoor spaces can offer. We prioritize providing access and a welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds, so that no one is excluded from the health benefits and educational resources available at our park. HAF staff and board have been learning and applying principles of Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion to our programming gradually over the past few years, and we understand that there is much more we can and must do.
