What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1st Lumber Inspector position at MacDonald & Owen?
Position Summary: The Lumber Inspector position is responsible for verifying the grade, color, and species of the lumber. This person must have a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect lumber with integrity, verifying grade and color specs meet NHLA standards
- Utilize the Company’s product grading manual, internal limitations and allowances, thick stock and snipe tolerance, and packaging SOPs
- Ensure lumber is placed accurately and neatly into the appropriate cart.
- Prepare lumber for shipment.
- Continuously maintain a safe work area clear from debris, clutter, and dust.
- Operate the planer and other production equipment.
- Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Maintain an excellent attendance record.
- Must be safety conscious, have a positive attitude, and work well in a team environment.
- Willingness to cross train and take on new tasks.
- Adhere to company policies and SOPs.
Language Standards
- Must understand spoken English
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to work 8-10 hour shifts while standing
- Ability to lift at least 60 lbs.
- Ability to perform in a fast, labor-intensive environment with exposure to dust particles and loud machinery
- Capability of performing repetitive motions such as bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $19.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
