About the Role

The Donor Relations role plays a pivotal part in our advancement team, focusing on cultivating relationships with existing supporters who may be interested in increasing their involvement with the Mackinac Center. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, this position requires exceptional phone skills, a strong intuition for relationship-building, and a collaborative mindset.

The primary goal of this position is to engage current supporters, identify those with the potential to expand their giving, and transition them into relationships with other team members. Success in this role requires enthusiasm for creating connections and a willingness to facilitate introductions to teammates. This role does not maintain a personal portfolio of donors but instead focuses on consistently elevating supporters into deeper partnerships with the Mackinac Center.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Engaging with supporters through phone conversations to build relationships, share updates, and explore opportunities for increased support.
  • Drawing current supporters deeper into our mission and connecting them to advancement team members for ongoing stewardship.
  • Collaborating with the advancement team to align efforts with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Maintaining accurate records of interactions and outcomes using organizational systems, including the Raiser’s Edge database.

The ideal candidate will bring :

  • Strong intuition and an instinctive ability to identify opportunities for deeper engagement.
  • Exceptional phone skills, with the ability to confidently navigate conversations and build rapport.
  • A collaborative mindset, with enthusiasm for working as part of a team and facilitating connections for others.
  • Cold-calling experience (highly desirable but not required).
  • A deep commitment to the principles of limited government, free enterprise, and personal responsibility.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and familiarity with fundraising databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) preferred.
