Job Title: Photonics Design Engineer, Senior / Principal
Position Overview: The Photonics Design Engineer, Senior/Principal will utilize in depth knowledge to develop, design, maintain, or improve optoelectronic modules, subsystems, or products, for Commercial, Aerospace & Defense applications. Will demonstrate conceptual and practical expertise in analog photonic design challenges and basic knowledge of related disciplines.

Job Title: Photonics Design Engineer, Senior / Principal
Position Overview: The Photonics Design Engineer, Senior/Principal will utilize in depth knowledge to develop, design, maintain, or improve optoelectronic modules, subsystems, or products, for Commercial, Aerospace & Defense applications. Will demonstrate conceptual and practical expertise in analog photonic design challenges and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of photonic subsystems, such as photonic link products, optical receivers and transmitters and related components, photonic signal process technologies and delay lines. Products include analog RF fiber optic links, high-speed digital fiber optic transceivers and fiber optic amplifiers. Products utilize microprocessors and firmware.
- Possess deep experience developing and manufacturing products for Aerospace and Defense customers including harsh environment.
- Stay abreast of technological advances in photonics and introduce new technologies that can improve performance and lower costs.
- Analyse fiber-optic links, system performance or operational requirements.
- Conduct research on new photonics technologies utilizing advanced engineering designs. Requires specialized depth and/or knowledge or expertise in the design, drafting, test, and release of new products, devices, circuits, and/or subsystems.
- Be responsible for all design activities and related product development activities from design reviews, design verification, and qualification. Write test and assembly plans and procedures.
- Provide clear status reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing test data.
- Expert in formal stage-gate new product introduction process.
- Awareness of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
- Impacts a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams, acts as resource for colleagues.
- Work with our Product Engineering group to transfer products to production.
- In depth understanding of a variety of optical networking circuit architectures which utilizes lasers, modulators, detectors, WDM, and control electronics.
- Analyse best practices to improve product, processes, or services.
- Strong ability to solve complex problems and takes a new perspective on existing solutions.
- Fluent with relevant simulation tools, software, and test equipment (spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, power meter, etc.) for applications requiring bandwidths of 50GHz or more.
- Experienced with integration and experience designing for high yield and low cost.
- Strong knowledge of the operation and calibration of industry standard test equipment.
- Experience with the design of evaluation boards including both electrical and thermal aspects.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or other drawing packages is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Due to ITAR regulations, U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar studies. Advanced degree is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant photonics design engineering.
- Senior / Principal title will be assigned based on the experience of the candidate.
