Summary
We are seeking a dynamic Director of Human Resources to join our team at the Macon County Health Department. This pivotal role will oversee HR functions, ensuring that our workforce is effectively managed to support our mission of enhancing community health. The Director will play a key role in fostering a positive workplace culture and driving strategic HR initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization's human resource compliance and strategy needs.
- Administers and/or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management.
- Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends.
- Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- Develops and implements HR budget.
- Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
- Responsibilities include: training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; providing performance feedback; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
- Facilitates teamwork concept and MCHD mission statement.
- Develops employees’ skills and encourages growth. Identifies staff development/training needs and implements affordable methods for ongoing education.
- Sets an example for staff in regard to performance and behavior. Contributes to building a positive team spirit. Maintains the ability to create an atmosphere where employees are motivated and productive.
- Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
- Continually works to improve HR skills. Attends workshops, conference trainings, state and national updates as directed which may include out of town and possible night and/or weekend travel.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required with at least 2-4 years of human resource management experience required. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly preferred.
- Proven experience in human resources management, preferably within a public health or nonprofit setting.
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems and benefits administration practices.
- Strong organizational design skills to enhance operational efficiency.
- Supervisory experience with a focus on team development and performance management.
