Position Overview:
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the Madera County Arts Council (MCAC), is the visionary leader and is responsible for guiding its mission to support the arts, foster creativity and build community engagement. The ideal candidate provides strategic direction, oversees all organizational operations and ensures the financial stability of the organization. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, stakeholders, funders and the broader community to fulfill MCAC’s mission of promoting and supporting the arts in Madera County.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership:
- Provide visionary leadership to the organization, ensuring alignment with MCAC’s mission and goals.
- Oversee daily operations, including program development, fundraising, marketing, and community outreach.
- Ensure high quality programs and customer satisfaction.
- Build partnerships with local, regional and national arts organizations, funders and community leaders.
- Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work.
- Conduct official correspondence of the organization and execute legal documents as authorized by the Board of Directors.
- Maintain official records and documents, which comply with federal, state and local regulations.
Employee Management
- Manage and support a team of staff and volunteers to meet the needs of MCAC, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Promote staff leadership and involvement in program planning, development, and evaluation and quality assurance efforts.
- Ensure employee best practices are maintained such as: job descriptions for staff and volunteers, routine performance evaluations, new employee and volunteer orientations and professional development opportunities.
- Develop and maintain sound human resource practices to comply with federal, state and local regulations.
- Coach and develop staff members to continue to do their best in their jobs.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and oversee a strategic plan in collaboration with the board of directors and key stakeholders to advance MCAC’s mission and objectives.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for growth and expansion of programs and services.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives, making adjustments as needed.
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the fields of arts education, museums, and multi-disciplinary community arts programs.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial stability and sustainability.
- Oversee fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor relations, sponsorships and special events.
- Expand revenue streams through strategic partnerships, program development and earned income opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements.
Community Engagement:
- Serve as the public face and ambassador of the organization, representing MCAC to the public, media, and stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with artists, arts organizations, community leaders, and government officials.
- Promote and raise community awareness of the activities of the organization, its programs, goals, mission and the needs of its users using social media, the MCAC website, email communications and a variety of events.
- Seek opportunities to serve additional constituents in the community.
- Advocate for the arts at the local, state, and national levels.
Board Relations:
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement policies and procedures.
- Provide regular updates to the board on the organization's progress and challenges.
- Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new board members
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in arts administration, nonprofit management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within an arts organization or nonprofit.
- Proven track record of successful fundraising and financial management.
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for the arts and a commitment to promoting cultural diversity and inclusion.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
