MadgeTech is seeking a motivated Junior Buyer to join our dynamic purchasing team. As a Junior Buyer, you will be responsible for assisting in the procurement of materials and components required for the production of our data logger products. You will play a key role in supporting the purchasing process, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery of goods to meet production schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist in identifying and evaluating potential suppliers for components used in data logging products.
- Maintain and update supplier contact lists, vendor catalogs, and other procurement-related documents.
- Communicate with suppliers to request quotes, track orders, and monitor delivery timelines.
- Create and manage purchase orders (POs) for materials, components, and services required in the manufacturing of data logging devices.
- Coordinate with the production and operations teams to address any urgent procurement needs or material shortages.
- Ensure POs are processed accurately and efficiently, with clear instructions regarding quantities, delivery schedules, and specifications.
- Follow up with suppliers to confirm order status and resolve any issues related to delivery or discrepancies.
- Monitor inventory levels of critical materials and components used in data logging production, ensuring that stock levels meet production requirements.
- Assist with inventory management tasks, including stock rotation, tracking excess inventory, and managing stock-outs or shortages.
- Coordinate with shipping/receiving to ensure proper receipt and storage of incoming materials.
- Help track and report on procurement spending, ensuring purchases align with the budget and financial targets.
- Assist in analyzing price quotes, comparing supplier options, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Support the Materials Manager in negotiating favorable terms and pricing with suppliers.
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to ensure all purchased components meet the required quality standards for data logging applications.
- Assist in resolving quality issues by coordinating returns, replacements, or other corrective actions with suppliers.
- Stay informed of industry regulations and ensure that all materials purchased comply with applicable standards (e.g., RoHS, CE).
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 1-2 years of experience in a purchasing or supply chain support role, preferably within a manufacturing or technology-driven environment (e.g., electronics, sensors, data logging).
- Familiarity with basic procurement processes and supply chain operations.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic understanding of procurement software (e.g., MRP systems such as DBA.)
- Good communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with both internal teams and external suppliers.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of supply chain management principles and best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address challenges with a positive, proactive attitude.
- Self-starter, able to manage time effectively and work within a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with electronics, sensors, or data logging systems is an advantage, though not required.
- Basic understanding of product specifications, material requirements, and supplier sourcing processes is a plus.
