The Engineering Division is looking for a motivated Facilities Maintenance Worker (or Trainee). It is our preference to hire at the full Facilities Maintenance Worker level, but we would consider a training program for an exceptional applicant.
This position is an excellent opportunity to work with experienced licensed professionals in a variety of building maintenance and construction trades (to include HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance required in mixed commercial/government buildings) and is a good way to learn the skills required to perform a broad range of maintenance tasks.
This work is characterized by significant time spent independently performing maintenance work, in combination with occasional custodial functions. You will exercise judgement and discretion in identifying and completing necessary maintenance and repair tasks under the general supervision of a higher-level supervisor.
If hired in a trainee level, you will participate in an individualized training program that would be developed with the applicant to provide appropriate classroom and on-the job training to advance to Facilities Maintenance Worker. Training program to last up to 18 months. Initial placement in the trainee progression is determined for each employee based on their training and experience at time of hire.

Level 2 – Facilities Maintenance Worker Trainee (CG 16/R 07. Starting pay rate is $26.57 per hour or $55,267.16/year)

Primary knowledge, skills and abilities required:
At all levels: Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to maintain adequate attendance and punctuality.Level 1 Trainee - Knowledge of the materials, supplies, and methods commonly employed in a facility cleaning operation. Ability to perform work from ladders and platforms. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual work when necessary. Ability to perform assigned tasks without close supervision alone or as part of a team. Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with building tenants, co-workers and supervisors. Ability to learn computer applications used for timekeeping, email and work orders.
Level 2 Trainee - Working knowledge of the materials, equipment, supplies, and methods commonly employed in a building cleaning operation. Working knowledge of cleaning devices and their care and maintenance requirements. Ability to understand and carry out instructions. Ability to perform assigned tasks without close supervision alone or as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Facilities Maintenance Worker - Working knowledge of building maintenance and custodial practices and procedures, and the tools, equipment, supplies, and materials common to this work. Knowledge of heating, ventilating and air conditioning mechanical systems. Ability to perform a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks involving minor painting, carpentry, plumbing, roofing and electrical work. Ability to maintain facility grounds, and to operate snow removal equipment. Ability to understand and carry out instructions. Ability to perform assigned tasks without close supervision alone or as part of a team. Ability to work independently, and to exercise judgment. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain routine records. Skill in the use of common hand and power tools utilized in building maintenance.- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to perform work while standing/walking for a large percentage of the time.
- Ability to frequently bend, twist, squat, climb (including ladders), and reach.
