Primary Functions:
1. Terminal cleaning of Operating Rooms. Cleans and maintains an assigned area (including restrooms, break room, PACU, OR's, sterile processing, directors office, and Endoscopy rooms) to ensure a neat, orderly, sanitary and safe environment. Uses appropriate and pre-approved chemicals for sanitizing and cleaning ensuring compliance for infection control. Utilizes cleaning process (time, temperature, chemical and action) to meet final inspection.
2. Performs dust mopping, damp mopping, baseboard detail mopping for all hard surface floors. Utilizes appropriate floor chemical based on soil level and type of floor. Follows proper body mechanics using the “S” stoke process for equipment use. Operates and maintains all cleaning equipment including burnisher, vacuum, micro-fiber mopping system, mini-spot extractor. Performs maintenance on equipment as needed. Follows precise measures to ensure safe work practice at all times. Utilizes Caution Signs when performing any wet cleaning method.
3. Collects and disposes of trash and hazardous waste. Follows department policies and procedures for waste removal. Uses appropriate color code, labeling, packaging, storing, hauling, compacting and disposal methods to ensure correct waste stream to meet regulatory agency requirements.
4. Manually cleans, high level disinfects and stores endoscopes within the standards and protocols set by the manufacturer and the healthcare facility.
5. Communicates to the RN any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric and general patient population.
6. Provides patients with assistance with activities of daily living. Provides additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients. Assists in transporting patients to the unit/floor. Assists in transporting patient on/off surgery bed.
7. Correctly processes and transports specimens to the lab.
8. Assists anesthesia and other surgery staff members with needs for supplies and equipment.
9. Maintains Rep Scrub vending machine ensuring products are stocked in machines on a weekly basis.
10. Utilizes scripting and key words at key times for all interactions with patients, families, visitors and hospital staff. Ensures confidentiality of patient records. Consistently meets standard inspection rating.
Experience: Experience in terminal cleaning of Operating Rooms preferred. One to three years of previous experience in cleaning preferably in a Healthcare setting. Experience with cleaning/sanitizing chemicals and housekeeping equipment also preferred.
