Madison-Oglethorpe Animal Shelter, better known as MOAS, has been in existence since 2002. MOAS was originally conceived as a solution to the stray animal population in Madison and Oglethorpe counties. Our mission is to save as many pets as possible while reducing the unwanted pet population through a low-cost spay and neuter clinic operated out of the shelter. We are excited about the many community initiatives that we are able to offer to assist in reducing pet overpopulation and to provide better care for family pets. These initiatives include our monthly low-cost vaccine clinics, our low-cost spay/neuter program, our assistance with trapping and altering feral cats, our community pet food bank, and more. Our Operations Manager Candidate is ideally someone who is excited to help with community initiatives like this, and with managing the care of the animal residents at the shelter.

Past animal experience is REQUIRED, and management experience strongly preferred.

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing day to day operations of Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter. We are searching for a passionate, energetic, driven individual who will bring management experience and experience as a Veterinary Technician (or assistant), or have worked in an rescue or shelter setting, or ideally a combination.

Candidate must be capable of staff management, and have a firm foundation in animal husbandry, common illnesses, disease management, biosecurity, and technical skills such as basic veterinary assistant skills (restraint, sample collection, vaccination, etc.) are REQUIRED. Ideal individuals will possess a team mentality; proper decision making skills, the ability to work well with employees, a Board of Directors, Law Enforcement, and the Public. They will possess leadership characteristics, strong problem-solving skills and be highly organized.

Before proceeding: please note that the Shelter Manager will be required to obtain Euthanasia Certification within 90 days of hire, and will be trained/required to perform Euthanasia as needed.

Qualified Candidates will possess:

  • Prior experience working with animals.
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment – standard office equipment, computer and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Shelter Manager Database, etc.
  • A valid unrestricted driver's license
  • MUST submit to a background check, credit check, and pass a drug test.
  • The ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform other physical activities as demanded by the position.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work and be reliable in attendance and on time for shifts to open the shelter.

Job Description:

  • Staff management. Move through the shelter during the day, making sure staff have completed their duties and are on task.
  • Oversee that lead kennel technicians and staff are managing medical cases of shelter animals appropriately, as directed by the Veterinarian.
  • Ensure the shelter is up to date and in line with all rules, paperwork, and requirements set forth by the Georgia Department of Agriculture at all times.
  • Staff schedules: create weekly schedule, approve and deny vacation and time off requests.
  • Oversee all social media accounts/ volunteers running them.
  • Keep up to date with latest shelter trends, and resources for training staff, seminars, handouts, videos, etc. that may be helpful to staff and organize training as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with director on shelter needs, events, ect.
  • Run 2 staff meetings per week.
  • Attend once a month Board of Directors meetings
  • Fill in as needed for the director.
  • Any other duties assigned by the director.

Letter's of recommendation are not require but suggested. References will be required for candidates who receive a call for interview.

This position is: Full-time, Salaried (40 hours a week)

Pay: $33,000.00 - $37,000.00 per year

  • 8 hour shift
  • Weekends as needed
