Elementary Fascination Station Sports Camp Program Leader - Summer 2025
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50 fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
MSCR Fascination Station Sports Camps provide an engaging afternoon of physical activity, focusing on having fun through sports skills, promoting active lifestyles, and fostering teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship. MSCR Sports Camps are afternoons following Fascination Station camp. Weekly themes may specialize in a single sport, with a strong emphasis on soccer, or provide a range of activities allowing campers to explore diverse drills, games, and scrimmages.
Job Description & Duties:
As a Fascination Station Sports Camp Program Leader, you will be responsible for creating a positive, engaging, and safe playing environment for campers participating in afternoon sports activities. Your primary focus will be on leading sport-specific instruction, organizing and overseeing group games, and supervising campers during active play. You will also provide constructive feedback to campers to support their skill development and promote positive sportsmanship.
Specific Responsibilities:
Soccer Weeks (Alternating Weeks):
- Lead engaging and age-appropriate soccer instruction, demonstrating fundamental skills (dribbling, passing, shooting, etc.).
- Design and implement soccer-focused drills and activities tailored to varying skill levels.
Multi Sports Weeks (Alternating Weeks):
- Provide instruction in a variety of ball sports (e.g., basketball, football, dodgeball, etc.), demonstrating basic, fundamental skills.
- Design and implement diverse drills and activities that promote fun, skill development and participation in various sports.
General (All Weeks):
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers during all sports activities.
- Supervise campers during transitions and free play periods.
- Provide positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to campers.
- Setup and take down sports equipment.
- Maintain daily camp schedules.
- Communicate with supervisors and other staff as needed.
Program Dates: 6/13/2025-08/15/2025
Work Location: Nuestro Mundo and Stephens Elementary Schools
Hours/week: 20 hours per week.
Work hours: 1:00pm-5:00 pm.
Application Deadline: Open until filled.
Payrate: 15.00 - 16.40 /hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Soccer playing background with experience in youth leadership.
- Experience or knowledge of other ball sports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a sports instructor/coach, childcare, or related field.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model, mentor, and team member.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
