Classroom Assistant - Early Childhood Center
Position Overview: The Classroom Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the classroom environment by working collaboratively with the teaching team and assisting in the daily operations of the classroom. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about early childhood education and are committed to fostering a nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment for children from 2 months to 6 years old. As a third teacher in a Reggio Emilia-inspired setting, you will support the children’s learning experiences through supporting, interacting and engaging with the children, their families and the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Child Engagement & Care: Provide individual and group care for children, guiding them through daily activities. Foster a positive, supportive, and safe environment where children feel encouraged to explore and express themselves.
- Classroom Management: Work alongside lead teachers in managing the classroom environment, ensuring it remains organized, safe, and conducive to active learning. Assist with preparing materials and setting up learning stations or activities.
- Collaboration with Colleagues: Work cooperatively with other staff members to share observations about children and ensure smooth classroom operations. Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Family Engagement: Establish positive, open communication with families.
- Health & Safety: Ensure the physical and emotional safety of children at all times. Help with hygiene routines, meals, and ensure that all classroom equipment is sanitized and in good working order.
Qualifications:
- Experience & Education: A high school diploma and previous experience in early childhood education or a related field is necessary. A CDA, Associate's degree, or higher in early childhood education is considered as being a plus.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to interact with children in a warm, supportive, and engaging manner.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with families, and colleagues.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of children and the teaching team.
- Knowledge of or a willingness to learn about the Reggio Emilia approach.
- Clear Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check as per state regulations.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit on the floor, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift children and materials as needed.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and engage in active play with children.
