Description
POSITION PURPOSE (Summary)
Phlebotomist/Lab. Assistant is responsible for the direct interaction with the patients of the medical center requiring strong customer service skills. Have strong computer skills to order and result tests from a variety of websites and processes. Have the responsibility for obtaining samples to be tested in the lab by means of venipuncture, capillary puncture, or swabs collection. Personnel must have a high school diploma and have a phlebotomist certification or the equivalent training. Maintain a positive and professional work attitude and employee performs all duties in a manner consistent with the mission and values of MVMC.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Greet and properly identify the patients.
2. Collecting testing samples with the appropriate training.
3. Properly label and process patient samples per laboratory pre-analytical policy
4. Must be able to complete registration of patients.
5. Correctly perform data entry of patient information, tests ordered and diagnosis in the laboratory portion of the Electronic Medical Record and the reference laboratory computer.
6. Follow the facility’s policy and procedure for medical necessity of test ordering and related paperwork such as ABN.
7. Perform certain waived test as agreed upon by the laboratory staff.
8. Answers the phone and satisfy caller’s questions or routes calls to another laboratory staff.
9. Provider strong customer service with patients, providers and other staff members.
10. Perform duties on the phlebotomy check list such as procedure controls and temperature checks.
11. Work with several computer programs for test ordering and test resulting requiring strong computer skills.
12. Assist the testing personnel in preventative maintenance and other non-testing duties.
13. Assist other departments as needed.
14. Follow the facility’s policy for confidentiality, and compliance.
15. Satisfactory time and attendance.
16. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
(Education, License/Registration, Experience, Knowledge and Abilities)
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- American Heart Association BLS certification required.
- Preferred: 1 year experience in phlebotomy techniques.
- Strong computer skills required.
