We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Special Weld Department Supervisor to lead our specialized welding operations. The ideal candidate will possess the technical expertise to oversee weld quality, ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 and D1.3 standards, and certify welders accordingly. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity and quality of our welded products while driving process improvements and team development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
· Supervise daily operations of the Special Weld Department to meet production goals, quality standards, and safety requirements.
· Train, evaluate, and certify welders in accordance with AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.3 standards.
· Develop and implement welding procedures and protocols to ensure product compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry standards.
· Conduct regular weld inspections and oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) processes.
· Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to support the Compliance Validation process and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Lead efforts to improve welding techniques, reduce defects, and enhance operational efficiency.
· Maintain accurate documentation of welder qualifications, procedure qualification records (PQRs), and welding procedure specifications (WPSs).
· Partner with the safety department to promote a safe working environment and ensure adherence to established safety protocols.
· Assist in capital projects involving welding automation and new equipment installation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
· Minimum of 5 years of welding experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
· Current certification or demonstrated ability to certify welders to AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.3 standards.
· Proficiency in reading and interpreting welding symbols, blueprints, and technical drawings.
· Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, techniques, and process control.
· Familiarity with automated welding equipment is a plus.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with manufacturing software systems is preferred.
Technical Skills
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Associate degree or technical certification in welding technology, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
