We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the financial health of the organization. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and maintaining financial records.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met and financial statements are accurate.
- Oversee accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes, including vendor payments, customer billing, and collections.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Monitor and maintain job costing records, including tracking expenses and revenues for multiple construction projects.
- Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for construction projects and overall company performance.
- Assist with compliance reporting, including sales tax filings, contractor payments (1099s), and insurance audits.
- Collaborate with project managers to provide financial insights and ensure cost control.
- Support external audits and prepare required documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and contribute to the development of internal controls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or project-based industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and job costing principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, QuickBooks, or other construction-specific platforms) and Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A proactive and problem-solving mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with WIP (Work in Progress) reporting and construction-specific accounting practices.
- Familiarity with lien waivers, change orders, and subcontractor payments.
- Knowledge of ERP systems used in the construction industry.
