Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Estimator/Project Manager to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase, overseeing the estimation process for various construction projects. This position plays a crucial role in the bidding process and therefore requires a strong background in construction management and project management, with a focus on accurate cost estimation and effective negotiation skills as well as effectively leading a team collaborating with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to ensure that all estimates align with project goals and budgets by ensuring accurate and timely cost estimates for construction projects. The ideal candidate will also possess strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of construction estimating practices.
Responsibilities
- Work with the estimating team in preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects using Planswift estimating software.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for accurate estimates.
- Organize, research, analyze, and strategically plan for conceptual and detailed estimate preparation, pricing, and scheduling for final submission of budget or bid to the client.
- Conduct thorough analysis of project plans, specifications, and contracts to identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Develop and maintain cost control measures throughout the estimating process to ensure budget adherence.
- Negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive rates for materials and services.
- Monitor industry trends and market conditions to inform pricing strategies and improve estimating accuracy.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior estimators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
- Prepare reports on estimating performance metrics and present findings to senior management.
- Write and submit bidding Requests for Information (RFI).
- Ensure all inside and outside project team members understand initial project requirements and ongoing updates to those requirements.
- Lead estimate reviews with project leadership.
- Present and defend estimates to clients and outside parties.
- Collaborate toward identifying creative and cost-effective solutions.
- Participate in weekly Construction Dept meetings and project scheduling.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in PlanSwift software for construction estimating.
- Strong knowledge of cost control principles in a construction environment.
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships with contractors and suppliers.
- In-depth understanding of construction site operations and management practices.
- Experience in construction estimating methodologies, including quantity takeoffs and pricing strategies.
- Familiarity with contract terms and conditions relevant to construction projects.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy in estimates.
- Previous experience in similar facility construction estimating and related functions plus a thorough knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts is preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational capabilities, including the proficiency to manage and track multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain subcontractor and supplier relationships.
- Ability to interface and maintain open communication with inside and outside team members, clients, architects, engineers, and other project parties to ensure complete understanding of a project’s scope.
- Applicable mathematical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Deep understanding of construction methods, means, and techniques.
- Ability to work under time pressure, continual deadlines and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and adept in learning new software quickly.
- Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
