We're looking for a Director of Finance Operations to join one of the most successful critical infrastructure and large public project contractors in the USA. This role will oversee the company's finance operations, estimates, job costing, and working capital reporting for their complex construction projects for their subsidiaries across the country.
This is the perfect opportunity for someone who understands long-term construction projects and can work cross-functionally between the Accounting and Project Management teams to build strong working relationships aimed at: developing streamlined processes, and improving financial reporting, fostering strategy and planning, and enhancing operational efficiencies. This also includes project and contract accounting reviews, managing change orders, identifying risks, and performing analysis. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work on construction budget with accounting team and project stakeholders, review technical documentation (budget, schedules, progress, project correspondence, etc), and perform cost tracking and job cost reporting
- Review ongoing projects and contract revenue recognition by liaising with the company’s various BUs for progress reports, perform cost variance analysis to identify risks, rising costs and budget impacts
- Prepare any relevant technical accounting memos to support project revenue recognition and change order management
- Prepare quarterly reviews for the for the various BUs that explore financial and operations information
- Manage change orders and claims, work with stakeholders and teams to assess disputes and correlate necessary financials (i.e. dollar figures being pursued, recoverables), all while maintaining GAAP compliance
- Review change orders and cost overruns to ensure the budget is kept in check along with accurate M/Q financial reporting and cash flow forecasting
- Centralize key processes for WIP and percentage of completion
- Work closely with project management and stakeholders to review estimates-at-completion (incl. assessments of variances)
- Develop process improvements for operational efficiencies, streamline financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, etc. across subsidiaries
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or similar field with a strong understanding of technical accounting and GAAP compliance
- 6 years background working in the GC, construction, or engineering industry working on large projects and overseeing work-in-progress/WIP
- Strong experience with change order management, claims processing, and percentage of completion
- Experience with preparing M/Q financial reports, cash flow forecasting, and operational reports to make actionable recommendations to executive management
- Experience streamlining or centralizing systems across different subsidiaries
- Demonstrable experience with construction budgets, risk management and tracking project costs
- Someone who is highly analytical, can decipher complex problems by performing variance analysis, and can report and present their findings to executive stakeholders
- Highly organized and detail oriented, strong communication skills, and has an ability to influence senior management
- Proficiency in MS Office and ideally JD Edwards or similar ERPs, as well as being familiar with construction/planning software
