What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coating Line Operator - 2nd Shift, Woodstock, IL position at Magnetic Technologies Corporation?
Brief Summary of Position:
Operate coating line equipment for the “Carlite” or similar coating of silicon steel or other strip stock. Work includes using fork trucks, hand trucks, computers and any other equipment needed to perform the job.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions of Position:
- Operate coating line by making adjustments to the controls side of the line by using the computer PLC control system to assure conforming product is produced and maintained throughout the entire duration of each coil
- Operate dual coating line equipment for the “Carlite” or similar coating of silicon steel or other strip stock.
- Work from standard processing or verbal instructions. Assist in other areas of the PTM facility as necessary.
- Locate specified coils of strip to be coated, transport as needed to the coating line, and mount coils on payoff reels.
- Weld or stich the end of coils to the preceding coils or leader material and process through successive coating line operations. Observe and indicate by flagging, defective areas of strip material.
- Band and remove finished coils from take-up reels.
- Use instruments assure conforming roll properties and surface finish requirements are met.
- Maintain specified temperatures, speeds, tensions and edge guides etc. to maintain quality material.
- Observe condition of strip at various stages to insure proper cleaning, coating and physical condition.
- Adjust cleaning, etching and coating bath levels as necessary.
- Start and adjust atmosphere flow scope as required by line operation.
- Mix coating and etching solutions as prescribed and change solutions as required.
- Using Ohmmeter check strip coating for minimum specified coating resistance as an indication of coating quality and uniformity.
- Detect and correct operating difficulties and report to supervision.
- Make minor repairs to equipment as necessary.
- Identify and determine weights of finished coils and maintain job production records and identity of materials.
- Cut out and identify test strips and perform required tests on material as needed. Perform other duties as required.

Required Technical/Job Experience and Qualifications:
· Prior manufacturing experience preferred
· Knowledge of running and operating machinery a must.
· Ability to assess a situation and respond quickly.
· Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
· Can demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and improvement
· Knowledge of chemicals and proper use.
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required

- Able to read gauges and adjust furnace temperatures
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow prescribed compositions
- Self-motivated and directed, with the ability to effectively execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
Working Conditions:
- Standard work week is Monday through Friday, hours to be consistent with business unit; some off hours work expected
- Working in production environment with temperature fluctuations
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to manage work and equipment
- Standing for extended periods of time
