Position Summary:
The Insurance Verification Specialist plays a key role in ensuring smooth patient scheduling and accurate insurance processing. This position is responsible for verifying insurance benefits and eligibility prior to patient visits and ensuring all necessary authorizations and referrals are in place.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits for scheduled appointments and procedures
- Check for and obtain prior authorizations or referrals when required
- Accurately enter and update insurance information in our EMR system (experience with ezDerm is a plus)
- Communicate coverage details and out-of-pocket estimates to internal staff and/or patients
- Contact insurance carriers or patients for clarification as needed
- Collaborate with the front desk, billing team, and clinical staff to ensure seamless workflows
- Stay up-to-date with common insurance guidelines, plan types, and verification best practices
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in insurance verification or medical billing (dermatology experience is preferred)
- Familiarity with commercial and Medicare insurance plans
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable working independently and managing time efficiently in a remote or hybrid setting
