What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller/Payroll Coordinator position at Mago Construction Company?
Mago Construction Company is a family-owned asphalt paving contractor based out of Bardstown, KY with asphalt plants, two rock quarries, and construction operations throughout the state of Kentucky.
We seek to add a Controller/Payroll Coordinator to the team!
POSITION SUMMARY: Will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing and ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations. Additionally, will play a critical role in financial reporting and tax return preparations. Serves as primary back up to CFO.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
1. Manage and oversee entire payroll process from start to finish, ensuring timely and accurate payroll runs as well as process and code expense reports.
2. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements.
3. Process and reconcile payroll transactions including wages, benefits, taxes, and other deductions.
4. Prepare and distribute payroll reports and maintain accurate payroll records.
5. Assist in preparation of financial statements, reports, and budgets.
6. Provide support during audits; manage related inquiries from external auditors.
7. Conduct regular audits of payroll procedures and records to identify and resolve issues.
8. Monitor and analyze financial performance metrics and prepare detailed reports for upper management.
9. Assist in preparing monthly and annual financial statements.
10. Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard Company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
11. Oversee the Company’s retirement plan, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and internal policies. Involves managing plan operations, conducting audits, and coordinating employee communications and enrollment.
12. Process employment verifications.
13. Manage inventory balances and adjustments.
14. Prepare sales and use tax and property tax returns.
15. Manage and review fixed asset depreciation reports and adjustments.
16. Oversee contract/subcontract setup in accounting system and process contract payments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA certification preferred. Proven experience as a Controller and a similar payroll management role. Strong knowledge of payroll processes, regulations, and compliance requirements. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations. Experience with payroll software and ERP systems.
