Responsible for day-to-day accounting functions to include general ledger maintenance, cash processing, accounts payable management, and statistical record keeping. Assists the CFO as requested and assigned, in maintaining the general accounting and financial reporting system. Actively involved in the annual independent audit and preparation of annual cost reports.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Responsible for month-end closing and preparation of the various month-end financial and statistical reports.
  • Directs and coordinates all activities within the department by preparing work schedules, making job assignments, overseeing maintenance of equipment, ordering supplies, etc.
  • Recruits, orients, trains, evaluates and monitors on-the-job performance for all staff within the department.
  • Assures the timely completion of performance reviews.
  • Plans and implements staff development activities.
  • Motivates staff and maintains a high level of morale among department personnel by fostering a sense of teamwork and motivating staff to perform assigned functions and achieve objectives.
  • Prepares an annual budget and manages the staff and department consistent with approved budgetary goals and guidelines.
  • Establishes, maintains, and administers policies and procedures for departmental functions that are consistent with and reflect the objectives of the broader hospital policies and procedures.
  • Prepares tax returns (sales tax and payroll tax returns).
  • Prepares corporate returns to IRS (Forms 990, 5500, etc.)
  • Prepares cost reimbursement reports for government agencies and/or non-governmental third party organizations or payers.
  • Assists independent auditors as assigned by the CFO.
  • Monitors contractual allowances and recommends changes as appropriate.
  • Maintains capital assets/depreciation system and reports.
  • Assists with budget preparation.
  • Responsible for maintaining worked hours/paid hours book.
  • Responsible for required time studies used in statistical reporting and cost finding.

  • Perform other duties as requested by his/her supervisor.

  • Actively supports the Organizational Mission and promotes a Customer Service focus in their daily work.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times. Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.
  • Completes assignments in a neat, accurate, prompt and thorough fashion.
  • Works cooperatively with associates, supervisors and subordinates and supports hospital and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, volunteers, co-workers, and all departments of the hospital in a pleasant and respectful style. Represents the hospital in a positive and professional manner.
  • Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of hospital business affairs.
  • Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
  • Comprehends and complies with all applicable hospital and departmental policies and procedures to include but are not limited to safety policies, including patient safety policies, OSHA Guidelines, Standard Precautions, chemical safety procedures, MSDS, Corporate Compliance and Risk Management.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Displays good judgment in grooming, speech and personal hygiene. Adheres to appropriate dress codes. Wears required hospital identification badges.
  • Attends hospital and departmental in-services and meetings as scheduled.


Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in Accounting or Finance is required with prior hospital accounting experience.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and ability to analyze data to detect and correct errors.
  • Accuracy with all numbers.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the information available.
  • Verbal ability required to understand requests and express questions and concerns as they are presented.
