The Mahoning County Prosecuting Attorney is seeking a Full-Time assistant prosecuting attorney for the Juvenile Division. This position will be focused on abuse, dependency, and neglect cases. Applications must be submitted through the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office Website.
Requirements for the position include: the applicant must be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and be in good standing; must have excellent research and writing abilities, must possess good communication and interpersonal skills, must possess a strong sense of professional accountability, have strong work ethic, and have impeccable integrity. Applicants must have the ability to comprehend a wide variety of written material, prepare legal briefs, prepare pleadings, prepare memos, maintain accurate records, interpret technical material, interview others concerning sensitive subject matter, explain legal issues to others, conduct trials, prepare witnesses for trial, conduct legal research, make independent decisions concerning legal issues, and speak in public. Applicants must also be able to pass a criminal background check through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Duties and responsibilities for an assistant prosecutor include, but are not limited to: Advising and represent Mahoning County Children Services in legal matters; participating in and conducting litigation processes related to child abuse, neglect and dependency; establishing and maintaining professional working relationships with the office staff, court staff, social workers, law enforcement officials, families, caregivers, community service providers, and foster families in a culturally sensitive manner at all times;. attending court proceedings; advising social services division employees on case related legal matters and prepare witnesses for shelter care, adjudicatory, dispositional, review, and permanent custody hearings; researching legal and procedural issues applicable to assigned cases; analyzing legal issues; preparing and reviewing legal documents, reports, memos and correspondence; researching and drafting motions and memoranda in response to motions; attending conferences, trainings, and meetings as necessary.
Compensation range is $72,000-$93,000, and will be commensurate with a candidate’s years practicing law and experience. Full-time employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package including medical insurance, benefit leave, paid holidays, and retirement benefits through the Ohio Public Employees' Retirement System. This position is eligible for insurance benefits on day of hire.
