BASIC PURPOSE

The Aquatics Group Exercise Instructor will provide instruction to all ages and levels in any area of Aquatics, as well as, design instructional programs, demonstrate proper techniques and styling to all levels of participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Instruct with sound principles in the area of group exercise.
2. Teach beginners through advanced learners in group exercise.
3. Ability to speak and communicate before both small and large groups of people with clarity and enthusiasm.
4. Provide individual guidelines for development in group exercise.
5. Give knowledgeable and constructive feedback to participants with encouragement regarding their progress and performance.
6. Create, teach, demonstrate and implement planned practices suitable for children and adults of all ages and abilities.
7. Knowledge of safety precautions needed and ability to ensure compliance and adherence by all class members.
8. Maintain a safe working environment and report all potential safety issues to Aquatics Manager, Aquatics Leads, Building Operations Manager and/or Center Director.
9. Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department and The Salvation Army.
10. Follow and adhere to all Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
11. Provide a safe, fun and enjoyable learning environment for all participants.
12. Ensure punctuality and preparation to teach your class.
13. Ensure fair and equitable treatment among all participants.
14. Maintain professionalism with children, patrons, clients, staff and management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

1. Minimum of one-year prior experience teaching or working in the area of Aquatic Instruction preferred. 
2. High School diploma or GED equivalency.
3. Ability to work independently and function effectively with minimal or no supervision.
4. Able to demonstrate various skills in the area of instruction specified.
5. Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the Aquatic Fitness programs.           

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

1. Must possess Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification.
2. American Sports & Fitness Association (AFSA) Aqua fitness certification required.
3. Must be 21 years or older.
4. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
2. Able to grasp, push, and/or pull objects
3. Ability to reach overhead
4. Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.
