Job Description
The assistant teachers of Main Street Preschool are responsible for the direction and overall supervision of our preschool students. They work cooperatively with our primary teachers to implement and direct daily plans and activities. Our assistant teachers promote educational and social development to students while maintaining a friendly atmosphere and enforcing the programs rules. They provide basic needs to our children including but not limited to, meals, toileting, and general housekeeping tasks. Patience, organization, and creativity are important. Strong problem solving and effective communication skills are appreciated. Assistant teachers understand that each child is created differently, and they should have a heart for the next generation.
Duties/Expectations
- Displays concern for children as well as an understanding of their developmental needs
- Respects ideas, feelings, abilities, and differences of program participants
- Displays patience with every child
- Aids with basic needs (meals, toileting, hand washing)
- Creates a friendly environment
- Ability to assume needed duties and responsibilities without director guidance
- Able to implement lesson plans and make adjustments as necessary
- Respects the privacy of program participants
- Appropriately reports accidents, problems, and incidents
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents/guardians as well as program staff
- Ability to react quickly and calmly when handling emergency situations
- Attends staff meetings, trainings, and other program events even when scheduled outside of typical working hours
- Performs general housekeeping tasks throughout the day
- Cleans/sanitizes according to license requirements
- Assumes responsibility for classroom all times
- Acknowledges and respects childcare center licensing rules
- Ability to perform physical activities
Requirements
At least 18 years of age
High school diploma
Must complete childcare trainings and health trainings upon hire
Completed ‘Employee Medical Statement’ upon hire
On going professional development

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
