Maine Audubon, Maine’s oldest and largest conservation organization, is seeking a Human Resources Manager to support our team and optimize HR practices. This newly created position blends day-to-day HR operations and strategy, offering the opportunity to make a real difference while helping advance our mission to conserve Maine’s wildlife and habitat.
In this role, you will oversee and administer core HR functions including recruitment, performance management, benefits, compliance, and employee engagement. You will also play a vital role in collaborating with senior leaders on short- and long-term HR strategies, optimizing processes, supporting organizational growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Own the full-cycle hiring process—from crafting compelling job descriptions to welcoming new hires with a seamless and consistent onboarding experience. You will ensure candidates feel excited to join our mission-driven team while setting them up for long-term success.
HR Operations, Policy Management & Compliance: Keep things running smoothly by managing employee records, supporting payroll and benefits administration, and ensuring alignment with policies and labor laws. You will also keep our employee handbook fresh and relevant, promote best practices that reflect our values, and serve as the go-to expert for keeping us compliant and organized.
Performance Management & Development: Guide managers through the performance management process, facilitate constructive feedback, and support development plans that empower our employees to grow and thrive. Your efforts will help cultivate a culture where everyone feels valued and supported.
HR Strategy: Collaborate and support leadership to implement. HR strategies that align with Maine Audubon’s goals. Whether streamlining processes or driving growth initiatives, you’ll be a trusted advisor and strategic partner.
Employee Engagement and Culture:
Foster a vibrant and inclusive workplace by designing and implementing engagement initiatives and planning team-building events. Your work will ensure that Maine Audubon continues to be a place where everyone feels they belong.
Qualifications:
- Passion for Maine Audubon’s mission and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3 years of HR generalist experience, with a strong foundation in full-cycle recruitment, performance management, HR compliance, and overall day to day HR tasks.
· Solid understanding of federal and state labor laws, HR best practices, and experience maintaining accurate employee records.
- Strong knowledge of HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now a plus).
- Proven ability to enhance and optimize HR processes in alignment with organizational goals.
This position is based primarily in the Gisland Farm office, with occasional remote work possible. Occasional travel to Maine Audubon work sites in Holden, Scarborough, and Elliotsville is required.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $68,000.
