From conducting preliminary tests to assisting with examinations, these professionals contribute to the seamless operation of an optometry practice. Optometric technicians are proficient in patient interaction, administrative tasks, and maintaining diagnostic equipment, ensuring that patients receive quality care and personalized attention throughout their eye care journey.
- Patient Pre-Testing: Optometric technicians perform initial tests on patients before they see the optometrist. This may include measuring visual acuity, checking intraocular pressure, and obtaining a medical history.
- Assisting with Examinations: During eye examinations, technicians assist the optometrist by gathering information about the patient's symptoms and history. They may also help with various diagnostic procedures.
- Contact Lens Assistance: For patients using contact lenses, technicians may assist in teaching proper insertion, removal, and care of lenses. They may also handle lens orders and provide guidance on lens options.
