Job Overview

The MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY seeks an experienced educator to join our faculty as a Maritime Academic Instructor. This role requires a highly skilled professional with expertise in teaching nautical skills and knowledge. The successful candidate will have a strong educational background, significant experience in maritime operations, and excellent communication skills.

Main Responsibilities:

• Teach undergraduate-level courses in areas such as navigation, safety, and ship handling.
• Develop and implement high-quality curriculum materials, lesson plans, and assessments.
• Mentor students in academic and career-related matters.
• Participate in departmental and faculty seminars to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Engage in scholarship and research activities aligned with the academy's mission and goals.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
• A valid USCG license with applicable STCW endorsements.
• Unlimited Tonnage Oceans License.
• Experience with small vessel operations and lifeboatman certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree or other advanced degree in a relevant field.
• Experience teaching nautical skills in a higher-education setting.
• Familiarity with electronic and digital advancements in maritime operations.

Working Conditions:

• Typical classroom and office environment are in multi-story buildings with elevator access.
• Work in labs and training cruises may require climbing on ladders and gangways, lifting and carrying materials.
