What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Health Worker (Spanish/English) - Summer Seasonal position at Maine Mobile Health Program?
The Maine Mobile Health Program seeks an individual for a unique outreach position during the 2025 broccoli harvest. In support of MMHP’s mission, this Community Health Worker (CHW) position will facilitate access to healthcare and other support services. MMHP is a community health center focused on supporting Maine’s agricultural workers and their families through mobile health services and case management. A Community Health Worker is a respected member of their community who acts as a bridge between medical providers and individuals to promote health and improve access to care. The CHW will provide health outreach services to agricultural workers in the Presque Isle area (including Caribou, Limestone, Ashland and Westfield) and other regional sites as assigned.
Responsibilities to include:
- Outreach to agricultural worker housing
- Facilitation of mobile clinics (including driving the mobile unit, registering patients, assisting with interpretation for patients and clinicians, and tracking follow-up needs)
- Health education
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, be able to empathize with patients, and have a commitment to supporting agricultural workers in Maine with their access to health care. Preferably this individual should have an understanding of the agricultural community either because of prior work, relationship in/to the community and/or other life experience such as shared language or culture. The candidate should be comfortable working in community settings and able to work independently. This position will be 20-40 hours per week role for a minimum of 10 weeks, with the possibility of extending for up to 5 months. It includes an evening schedule and some weekend or daytime hours. Reliable transportation/clean driving record, basic computer skills are a must and an ability to speak, read and write in English and Spanish is preferred.
